Vice Chair Isabel Shiao Introduction

Hello delegates!

My name is Isabel Shiao, and I will be one of your Vice Chairs for JCC. This will be my third year in BMUN, where I also serve as the USG of Outreach and Education. I am so excited to meet you all soon and have fruitful debate about the Spanish Civil War.

I am a senior at UC Berkeley studying History on a pre-law track, with a minor in Art History. My concentration is in the early 20th century (WWI, interwar era, and WWII), and I absolutely love art from that period too. In my free time, I enjoy watching Bojack Horseman, experimenting with new recipes, and watching Twilight with my roommate.

This year's JCC topic has a special place in my heart, given my academic background. Understanding the roots of fascism is increasingly relevant everyday, not only to better understand our past, but also our polarized, global society today. Our committee will be a great opportunity to delve into the nuances of each faction within the Civil War and see if we can change the course of history. I really look forward to hearing what you will all discuss, and I hope you will walk away from BMUN 70 having learned something new. Best of luck!
